Bandera Blueberries

Image
Our hike up Bandera this weekend was a little more strenuous than I bargained for (as in, I didn't quite make it up the last steep section) but the mass amounts of blueberry bushes made it well worth it.

Best Campsite Ever

Image
This weekend we discovered the most perfect campsite I've ever been to... close to a river, surrounded by neat tall trees, with a view of the cliffs of Infinite Bliss.

Wallet Upgrade

Image
Although my thrifted wristlet was an awesome find, I've been itching to find a slightly classier wallet for a few months now (theres just something about sitting down at a business-lunch with a bright red jangley wristlet that makes me feel like I'm 15 years old). Enter this neutral leather stunner from my favorite vintage spot... winner!!

Dye Job

Final result from the tumeric

Tumeric Tie Dye

Image
To prep for the rapidly approaching  Dave concert at the Gorge (only a few weekends away!) I got my tie-dye on this weekend, with an earth friendly approach. Hello all-natural dyes! This is also an awesomely lazy approach, because who really wants to go all the way to a craft store to buy dyes?

Using some 2 dollar tank tops from Goodwill, I attempted a version with tumeric (for yellow) and version with beets (for pink). The beets ended up washing out almost immediately, but WOW does tumeric pack a punch!

Deep Sea Diver Concert

Image
Caught my first Everett Music Initiative weekend concert on Saturday... the super talented Deep Sea Diver. Mannnn what a good show!

Cake Stand

Image
I've been wanting a simple, glass cake stand for a while now (and my makeshift plate-on-a-bowl stand for Fourth of July certainly added fuel to that fire) but haven't been able to find anything online that struck my fancy. Luckily, this weekend, Cary headed out for a 3-day mountaineering class (giant backpack, crampons & glacier skills involved...whoa baby) leaving me at home for a "quiet" weekend alone. Mass thrifting ensued...

A Bear

Image
Trying out an awesome iPad app I just got: Paper by FiftyThree. It's also nice for work-type things, taking notes / making sketches at home (my best ideas tend to come just as I'm falling asleep), and then sending them straight to my work email. Nifty!

Jellyfishing

Image
Crazy jelly spotted in Anacortes (luckily this was the sailing day and not the kiting day)

Wind-sports Weekend

Image
This weekend was all about enjoying the sea breeze.
(Cary joined a sailing race near Anacortes, and I tried my hand at kitesurfing)

Still lots of fun left on the list! The DMB concert at the gorge is rapidly approaching... definitely need to get some tie-dye in before then

Homemade Vanilla Sundae

Forgot to take a picture of this deliciousness until it was almost all gone :) YUMMM

Garden Beauties

Image
Our wildflower patch in the front yard may be a bit, well, wild looking, but man there are some awesome blooms in there!

Kiteboarding Lesson

Birthday surprise number three: Kiteboarding at Jetty Island

This was the big kahuna of all my surprises; the one that I've been planning for months and trying like crazy not to give away any details. We've been watching people kite every time we visit Jetty Island, envious as they tear up and down the beach doing jumps and tricks, but Cary already has so many sports (and gear!) I knew he would never sign himself up for a lesson.Luckily, his birthday is smack in the middle of kiteing season :)

Stand Up Paddling

Birthday surprise number two: Stand Up Paddleboarding

We've been hearing so much about this sport lately, I felt like we had to give it a try. The weather was gorgeous this weekend, and as we waited for the conditions to be perfect for surprise number 3, hourly rentals on Green Lake made it super accessible. Shockingly, it was not as hard as it looks, but also shockingly it wasn't super fun. Maybe we were doing it wrong, but I think I would rather just be going fast in a kayak, or lazily floating on a tube. Glad to have tried it out though!

Borklympics

Birthday Surprise Number 1: The Borklympics

Friendly rivals,
I'm excited to announce that Friday (August 2nd) at 7 pm, the Bork Residence will be hosting a celebration of challenges in honor of Carrington's birth, aka "The Borklympics". You have been deemed worthy opponents, and we hope you will honor us with your presence.

Events included a challenge of the mind ("Did you know" trivia about sharks, bears, planes, and landspeed cars), a challenge of strength (pull-ups), and a challenge of the palate (IPA taste testing / identification).

Birthday Boy

I have sooooo many surprises for the birthday boy planned this weekend :)
In the meantime, here's a song in his honor: Best Coast // The Only Place
